Solid oak and teak,
drawn to age well

No veneer, no panel: solid timber, oiled, that sands back and repairs. It is the brand that best survives comparison in a Caribbean villa — provided you know what you are buying.

Ethnicraft — solid oak table

Ethnicraft — Solid oak and teak, oiled and repairable. Founded in Antwerp over thirty years ago.

The house

Two friends from Antwerp, and thirty years of solid wood

Ethnicraft was founded in Antwerp a little over thirty years ago by Benoit Loos and Philippe Delaisse. The house is now based in Boom, Belgium, and ships to some fifty countries.

The stance has not changed: warm materials, a drawing that holds form and function together, and collections thought through for every room — from the table that defines a dining room to the small object that gives it meaning.

The ranges

Four families, one vocabulary

Species and finishes run across the whole collection: a Bok table and a Whitebird sideboard answer each other, and a piece added three years later still matches.

Outdoor collection

Solid teak for the open air: tables, low seating and loungers. The wood greys and is re-oiled, not replaced — a warmer register than technopolymer, for a sheltered terrace.

Why this brand here

Solid wood in the tropics,
what you need to know

Solid is the right choice here, but not just any way. This is what we check with you before ordering.

  • Species
Oak or teak, room by roomTeak takes humidity and terrace edges. Oak stays indoors, in a temperate atmosphere.
  • Finish
Oiled, not lacqueredAn oil is touched up locally. A scratched lacquer means reworking the whole piece — impossible here, with no workshop.
  • Humidity
Acclimatise on arrivalEuropean solid wood arrives dry. Let it breathe for a few days before loading it, or it will move.
  • Air conditioning
The real riskIt is not the humidity that splits wood here, it is the swing between cooled and uncooled in a villa shut up between two lets.
  • Repairability
Sands and re-oilsA marked top comes back new in a morning. That is what justifies the price gap over ten years.
  • Weight
Counts in the freightA solid table weighs twice a panel one. We say so beforehand, not on the shipping invoice.

What we recommend here

The pieces that survive the climate, the rental turnover and the sea crossing — and the ones we quote most often.

Ordering and delivery

Weight, humidity and oil

Solid wood travels heavy and breathes. The three points that decide the budget and the long-term hold are never in the catalogue.

Weight
Solid wood is heavy: it is the line that moves the freight, far more than volume
Acclimatising
Let the piece breathe three to five days on arrival before loading it
Care
Order the maintenance oil at the same time — one application a year is enough
Lead time
6 to 10 weeks from Belgium, depending on species and finish
Spare parts
Slats, glides and hardware available separately
