The house
Martinelli Luce publishes from Lucca, in Tuscany, fittings drawn by named creators. The best known, Gae Aulenti’s Pipistrello, drawn in 1965, is recognised without the brand having to be named.
It is a different buying logic from technical lighting: you are not buying lumens, you are buying a piece. It sits in a precise place, and it carries the rest of the decoration.

The catalogue mixes historic reissues and contemporary work. The two marry: a Pipistrello on a console and a recent pendant over the table do not contradict each other.
